Stray pets seek new homes
Winston the blind puppy dog
Winston the blind puppy is hoping for a new family
An animal shelter is appealing for new homes for abondoned pets it rescued over Christmas.

The Blue Cross in Burford, Oxfordshire, took in scores of animals, including new puppies and kittens that now need adoptive families.

It is feared some of the strays were bought as Christmas presents and then dumped when owners changed their minds.

Carly and Carmen are a mother and daughter pair of cats aged 10 and nine years old, rescued before the holidays.

Blue Cross said: "They are the most loving, affectionate cats that you could wish to meet."

Another Burford resident is Winston, a puppy who was born at the shelter 12 weeks ago.

Blue Cross said: "Unfortunately, Winston is blind, so has some special requirements from a new home.

"He copes remarkably well and is full of mischief. He loves human company and is very affectionate and would be a wonderful companion.

Fresh start

The shelter also has guinea pigs, rats and goats waiting for new homes.

Meanwhile, a service which looks after elderly people's pets is looking for new volunteers.

The Cinnamon Trust in Banbury cares for animals if their owners are taken ill or have to go into hospital.

Anyone interested in finding out more about giving a pet a fresh start should call the Blue Cross in Burford on 01993 822483.

Potential volunteers for the Cinnamon Trust should call their national office on 01736 757900.
