Repairs shut historic rail link
The Royal Albert Bridge
The maintenance work is costing more than £1m
The main railway link between Devon and Cornwall will be closed again over the weekend to allow maintenance work to continue.

Network Rail said the £1m project on the Royal Albert Bridge was an essential part of keeping the track working properly.

It is the second time the service, which goes across the River Tamar, has been disrupted recently.

The bridge was closed over Christmas to allow more work to be carried out. It will be shut again next weekend.

Historic link

The bridge, which was designed and built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, is an historic link between Devon and Cornwall.

It is badly in need of repair to restore it to its original design.

The work will eventually see the track relaid on new timbers.

During the closure, bus services will replace train services between Plymouth and Liskeard stations.
