Villagers call for flood action
Villagers were washed out over the New Year
People whose homes and businesses have been flooded in a village in West Cornwall are to meet to discuss ways to prevent any further flooding.
Crowlas has been flooded eight times in less than two months. Penwith council has called a public meeting for Thursday 9 January at the Ludgvan community centre. Villagers, farmers and representatives from the Environment Agency are all expected to attend. Barrier plan Posters are being displayed throughout the area to promote the meeting. Villagers blamed farmers after the latest flooding over the New Year, saying that the removal of hedges had made the problem worse. After a meeting in the village, a group of farmers agreed to help. The aim is to form a barrier or a trench to stop the water running off. The Environment Agency is also considering a flood relief scheme for the village. On Christmas Day a group of residents blocked the A30, the main road through the village, to draw attention to the flooding and they say they will take action again if necessary.
