City bus drivers to strike
The strike is over changes to working conditions
Managers are being drafted in to drive Norwich buses when the city's drivers go on a week-long strike on Sunday.
First Eastern said its managers would drive about 22 buses, leaving another 109 of its 131 peak-time services off the road. The company also hopes to bring in First Eastern Counties drivers from other parts of the country to cover other routes. Talks broke down between the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU) and First Eastern Counties buses on Friday. Timetable information The dispute centres on changes to working conditions. First Eastern has expressed disappointment in the outcome of the four-hour talks with the union and the arbitrators ACAS. A company spokesman said the union had not been prepared to compromise. The TGWU believes the strike action is unnecessary and says a settlement over working hours could have been reached.
