Mother's anniversary appeal for son
Daniel Nolan
Daniel Nolan vanished on New Year's Day 2002
A mother has made a new appeal for help on the first anniversary of the day her teenage son vanished.

Daniel Nolan, then 14, failed to come home after a late-night fishing trip with friends on New Year's Day 2002.

Family and friends gathered at St. Andrew's Church in Hamble, Hampshire this New Year's Day for a special service of hope.

His mother Pauline said: "Our lives are in suspension. Dan, our eldest son, was the anchor of our family."

We would like to thank everybody for everything they have done for us during the hardest year of our lives

The family hoped the service would have a positive atmosphere, with readings and music from Daniel's friends.

Daniel went to collect his fishing gear on the pontoon at Hamble Marina on his way home from the trip last year.

But Pauline found his rod still on the pontoon in the early hours of the morning and Daniel has never been seen since.

Five police diving teams, two army sonar units and specialist sniffer dogs have searched for him, but not so much as a scrap of his clothing has ever been discovered.

Pauline and husband Greg have stuck posters appealing for information on their son as far away as Newcastle Airport.

The family is offering a £50,000 reward if he is found.

A family statement said: "We would very much like to thank everybody for everything that you have done for us during the hardest year of our lives.

"We sincerely hope Dan is doing as well as we are with the support that we have had and hope that maybe we will get that all important phone call or knock on the door.

"We may not be decorating our house this Christmas, but the warmth we have received from so many friends, old and new, has decorated our lives forever."
