Knighthood for festival director

Brian McMaster, director of Edinburgh's renowed festival

The director of the Edinburgh International Festival Brian McMaster, who was born and grew up in Hertfordshire, has been knighted in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

Mr McMaster, 59, previously awarded a CBE, said he was "very pleased".

Mr McMaster studied law at university and qualified as a solicitor before going on to work in the record industry, which proved a springboard into the arts world.
