Porsche driver jailed after chase

A Porsche driver who led police on a 50 mile high speed chase through Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and North London has been jailed for four years.

Dean Rose, 22, scattered pedestrians and even caused an aeroplane to abort its takeoff as he drove across an airfield pursued by traffic police.

The chase began when Rose was caught in a speed trap as he drove the Boxster car, which had false number plates, at 101 miles per hour on the A1M motorway at Letchworth in Hertfordshire.

St Albans Crown Court heard that Rose stopped the car, but as a traffic officer got out to speak to him, he drove off beginning the 45 minute chase.

130 mph

Prosecutor Neelan Sharma said Rose headed north towards Biggleswade reaching 130 miles per hour, then left the motorway and turned back onto the southbound carriageway.

At each junction of the motorway Rose drove off only to join it again immediately in an attempt to shake off the following police cars.

A police helicopter tracked the chase as the Porsche sped down to the end of the A1 at Stirling Corner before travelling at 90 miles per hour through a 30 mile per hour zone in Borehamwood.

The Porsche then cut across Elstree aerodrome, causing the take off of a plane to be aborted as Rose drove along the runway before crossing fields towards Pinner.

Admitted charges

At Harrow and Wealdstone station passengers on the forecourt ran for cover, as the car, which was by then running on its wheel rims, hit a van.

Rose, who was wearing a flak jacket, ran off but was arrested by the police.

On Tuesday, Rose, of Apsley Grove, North Harrow, London appeared for sentence after admitting handling stolen goods, dangerous driving and having an imitation firearm with intent on 8 September.

Defence barrister Stuart Biggs said Rose expressed remorse for what happened.
