Police seize £5m drugs haul
Police initiative has hit drug dealers
Drugs worth around £5m have been seized and 80 people arrested as police mounted a huge purge on the drugs trade across South Yorkshire.
Operation Dealer has been carried out by South Yorkshire Police over the past two weeks and included taking ten kilos of heroin off the streets during the operation. Dozens of officers carried out raids at addresses in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster. Police say the intention is to take as many drugs and dealers out of circulation as possible in the festive period. Superintendent Rob Hayworth told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We've had over 80 arrests, that will be nearer 100 by the time we've finished." He added:"We have recovered as well probably between £4.5 - £5m of dangerous drugs." |
