Bank to become alternative night club

Barclays Bank is backing the project
An historic city centre bank is set to become an alternative night club life for young people.

The Lind Youth and Community Trust is going to turn Barclays Bank in Bank Plain, Norwich, into a one-stop youth shop.

It is being seen as an alternative to the drink and drug-influenced club scene.

Sir Brian Jenkins, deputy chairman of Barclays Bank - which is backing the 3.5m plan, told the BBC that the decision filled him with mixed emotions.

'Valuable resource'

"We are sad to be leaving this magnificent building, but also very delighted that it is going to be put to such a marvellous use."

Graham Dacre, trustee of the Lind Youth and Community Trust, welcomed the proposal.

"We look forward to working with all within the community to ensure the one-stop youth shop becomes a valuable resource to young people and indeed the wider community."

The bank was built in the 1920s as a regional store for gold bullion.
