Woman dies after putting out fire
Reconstruction of chip pan fire
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the woman
A woman has died after she managed to put out a chip pan fire in her house in Lincolnshire.

Firefighters from Grantham were called to Ermine Street in Ancaster just before 1730 GMT on Monday.

A chip pan had caught fire and caused severe damage to the oil and the cooker.

Adela Rawdon, 84, managed to put the fire out before the firefighters arrived but she was overcome by smoke.

Inquiry begins

Paramedics tried to resuscitate her at the scene.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

Lincolnshire Ambulance Service says there were smoke detectors fitted in the house.

Grantham fire station officer Dave Lord said: "The crews found the lady in some sort of distress and, working with the ambulance, we transported her to hospital but she subsequently died.

"There is very little fire damage. The cause of the fire will be under investigation today.

"The cause of her death will be determined by the coroner's officer some time in the next few days."
