Vandals attack speed camera again
Speed camera
Police say speed cameras help ensure driver safety
A 30,000 speed camera at a renowned Norfolk accident blackspot has been vandalised for the second time in a year.

The camera on the main north west Norfolk coastal road at Heacham was first vandalised in March.

It had only working again for two days after being repaired when wreckers put a burning tyre over it.

Inspector Colin Williamson, from Norfolk Police, said the second attack does not mean the vandals have won.

Speed cameras, whether you like them or not, they work - they do deter speeders so we will be doing something at that location

"Today, for example, we've got the casualty reduction partnership team out in their mobile vehicle out on the main A149," he said.

"We still need to do something about speeding at that location."

Inspector Williamson said police will push to have the camera replaced and will take greater action to protect the camera.

"Speed cameras, whether you like them or not, they work - they do deter speeders so we will be doing something at that location."

In another recent attack on a speed camera in the county, a unit at Framingham Earl near Norwich was damaged by pellets from a high-speed airgun on 6 November.

Damage to that camera was estimated at 30,000.
