Emergency repairs for mill
The Flaxmill in Shrewsbury
The council believes the building is deteriorating
Emergency repairs will be made to an historic mill after its owners were warned by council officials.

The Flaxmill in Shrewsbury was built in 1797 and is one of the world's first iron-framed buildings.

However, officers from Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council were worried about the building's future because it needed restoring.

Now, the mill's owners Maltings Developments has pledged to carry out the work

Peter Jarratt, director of development at Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, said: "The cabinet's decision to use its powers reflects its commitment to seek the proper protection of the building.

"It is currently on English Heritage's buildings-at-risk register and we are working very closely with English Heritage to ensure there is no further deterioration of the Flaxmill."
