Calderdale traffic delays ahead
Traffic jam
Car users are facing huge delays
Commuters in Calderdale face delays and congestion until spring next year with the closure of a major road.

Essential repair work to Brookfoot Lane is expected to last five months.

Calderdale council is warning of major traffic disruption in the area and is asking commuters to be patient while the work is carried out.

But they say there is no alternative to the closure of the road, which links Southowram with Brighouse.

Bus service

A landslip earlier in the year left the road in need of major repair and the council fears the problem could become much worse if the work is delayed.

A council spokesman apologised for the disruption and said: "We would ask that people start their journeys early, allow extra travelling time and exercise patience while the work is carried out."

Alternative routes have been signposted and warnings of delays are being provided.

Metro, the Passenger Transport Authority, is putting on special buses during the closure.

Timetable information is being made available locally in Southowram and at the travel centre in Halifax bus station.
