£2.8m pay-out after birth mistakes
The £2.8m award was made at the High Court
A six-year-old boy is to receive nearly £3m compensation after he was left with severe disabilities during birth.
Luke Anthony, from Craven Arms, Shropshire, was starved of oxygen at Hereford County Hospital and now needs round-the-clock care. He is unable to walk or stand without assistance because of his cerebral palsy. Hereford Hospitals NHS Trust has admitted liability and agreed in the High Court on Monday to pay out £2.8m in compensation. Devotion Luke's mother Janice Anthony, from Craven Arms, Shropshire, brought the action on her son's behalf. The trust's counsel Gregory Chambers apologised for what happened and paid tribute to Luke's parents. He told the court: "Nobody could fail to be impressed by their devotion to Luke." The judge said he had "no hesitation" in approving the settlement and told the court: "I wish Luke and his parents the best for the future." |
