Green Goddesses tackled incidents across the region
Four Green Goddess crews tackled a fire which caused severe damage to a Sheffield School.

The military crews were called to Firth Park Comprehensive on Monday morning.

They managed to bring the flames under control but the building was left badly damaged.

Investigations are under way to discover how the fire started.

Goddess crews were called to six other incidents across South Yorkshire between 2130 GMT on Sunday and 0600 GMT on Monday.

Striking firefighters left their picket line in Scarborough to rescue a man trapped in a shop fire.

They helped RAF crews tackle the fire at a sports store on Pavilion Terrace.

Firefighters in York were praised for assisting the rescue of a man trapped in a house fire on Saturday night.

They left their picket line to go to a burning house in the Groves area of the city.

Steven Carr is now recovering in York District Hospital after being rescued from an upstairs room.

Spokesperson Annie Gibson described the joint operation between the RAF and North Yorkshire Fire Service as a "very successful one".

Green Goddess crews answered six separate calls in North Yorkshire over Sunday night.

Meanwhile, West Yorkshire engines attended 20 incidents across the region.

The most serious was a fire in a launderette in the Hyde Park area of Leeds.

Soldiers entered the premises wearing breathing apparatus but no one was injured.
