Canal project wins praise
Canal boats
Canal users will benefit from the project
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has been invited to visit a project which has transformed a Yorkshire village.

The Huddersfield Narrow Canals scheme won plaudits for being among the best at an urban regeneration summit in Birmingham.

The project has been entered in the deputy prime minister's Award for Urban Renaissance and now John Prescott has been invited to come and see the scheme for himself.

The Narrow Canal Restoration has been voted as one of the four best projects in the country and was highlighted as a "physical and environmental regeneration that had dramatically transformed the village of Slaithwaite."

The Huddersfield entry beat over 70 other entries to secure the award.
