Pupils learn Latin at lunchtime
Latin can aid students of history, law, and the classics
Latin can aid students of history, law, and the classics
The headteacher of a Norfolk first school is hoping to improve literacy among her pupils by teaching them Latin.

The lunchtime Latin club at Hopton-on-Sea first school began in September.

Headteacher Rosemary Barker said the club had proved popular, and filled a need for pupils learning to read and write.

"Children today need to extend their language skills in as many ways as possible, and Latin is another way of doing that," she said.

Ms Barker said she would like to extend the classes in the future.

She said the goal was to offer pupils the chance to learn Latin not as an add-on club subject, but as part of their regular curriculum.
