Rail death sparks delays
Platform
Dozens of London-bound passengers were delayed
Passengers on the 40-minute "fast service" from Cambridge to London on Friday spent more than three hours on a chaotic journey after a rail death.

An official with WAGN trains said the delay was due to a fatality at Harlow Mill in Essex.

The commuters were first delayed for 20 minutes at Bishops Stortford, Essex, and were returned to Cambridge to take a different train to King's Cross.

Tim Holder, 33, a city worker, joined the service at 0615 GMT at Audley End.

He passed through the same station two hours later, on yet another train, and said the rail company's many announcements had confused commuters.

No 'Plan B'

"It's difficult because there's a fatality but the problem is there's no communication as to what plan B would be," Mr Holder said.

A spokesman for train operator WAGN said: "Obviously there's very little we can do when there's a fatality."

He said the rail company can either stop service until police sort out the situation or divert travellers.

"The danger with this is that in the course of doing this the police give the line back to us and that seems to have happened this morning."

British Railway Police confirmed the fatality but have not released further information.
