PC Walker died after coming off the motorbike

The driver of a stolen car who is accused of ramming a police motorcyclist and killing him almost instantly, appeared to brag about the incident, a court has heard.

Nottingham Crown Court was told that in a secretly recorded conversation, 22-year-old Nicholas Walters warned his girlfriend away from a love rival with the words: "I'm going to kill him like I killed that copper."

PC Malcolm Walker, 45, was thrown into the air before landing on a concrete bollard in Perry Barr, Birmingham, in October last year.

Mr Walters, of Villa Road, Lozells, Birmingham, denies a charge of murder and of stealing a car.

PC Walker sustained multiple injuries

The jury was told Mr Walters jumped into the car which had been left running on a garage forecourt while the owner was in the shop, and then sped off.

Moments later, the court heard that Mr Walters rammed the vehicle into the officer.

Stephen Linehan QC, prosecuting, said: "The result for one man was that he lost his car.

"The result for PC Malcolm Walker was that he lost his life.

"The impact hurled him from his machine.

"His body crashed into a concrete bollard.

"He sustained multiple injuries and those injuries killed him almost immediately."
