Body on beach baffles police

The remains were found on Chesil Beach

The identity of a man whose body was washed up on a Dorset beach 10 days ago is baffling police.

The badly decomposed remains may have been in the water for two weeks before they were found on Chesil Beach, near Portland.

The man was aged between 30 and 50-years-old, six feet and well-built, with a curvature of the spine that may have caused him to walk with a stoop.

He was found wearing blue Marks & Spencer denim jeans, which were size 34-inch waist and 31-inch leg, and a pair of short black socks.

'Broken nose'

Coroner's officer Robert Hoare said: "The man had a large square face and may have sustained a broken nose previously because the cartilage had been surgically removed.

"He had a half-inch scar on the left side of his top lip.

"The man had his own teeth, with only one small filling.

"He had dark hair, which was long at the sides, and a bald crown, and possibly also a moustache."
