Iguanas rescued from caravan
An iguana
The two iguanas were found in a makeshift vivarium
Two iguanas are being cared for by the RSPCA after they were rescued from a caravan in Lancashire.

The exotic pets were left behind by tenants renting the caravan in Colne.

The 3ft-long male and female pair were discovered by the landlord as he went to inspect his caravan.

He called the RSPCA after spotting the abandoned iguanas in a makeshift vivarium.

'No excuse'

The pair are now being cared for by one of the charity's workers while a permanent home is found.

RSPCA inspector Sarah Hill said: "We will perhaps never know why the tenants left these iguanas behind, but there is no excuse for abandoning animals in this way.

"Iguanas are not easy animals to look after.

"They require a large living space with specialist heating and lighting requirements."

The RSPCA rescues about 3,700 abandoned and unwanted exotic pets a year, including snakes, lizards and iguanas.
