Lincoln's treasures to go on show
Artists impression
The museum will cost a total of 11.9m
A new museum for Lincolnshire will help put the county on the national map, according to council leaders.

It has been announced that a 3m European grant has been awarded to the scheme which means it is now set to go ahead.

Work on the new County and City Museum will begin at the start of next year and will cost 11.9m in total.

It will be built next to the Usher Gallery in Danesgate and act as a gateway to the city's historic area that surrounds the cathedral.

Two million historical artefacts from the county are currently housed in sheds as there is not room at the current County and City Museum, which opened in 1906.

Some of the more interesting relics include stone tools from the Iron Age, and Roman coins, swords, shields, bits of mosaic and preserved leatherwork from 1,900 years ago.
