Canaries plan new 6.5m stand
The South Stand
Work on the South Stand should start in the spring
Plans for a new 8,000-seater 6.5 million stand have been unveiled by Norwich City Football Club.

The new seating would replace the old South Stand at Carrow Road.

It could be further expanded to accommodate up to 12,000 fans at a later date.

The move comes after Norwich City agreed a deal to sell three acres of river-fronting land for new homes to be built.

Facilities in the new stand, which would increase the capacity at the ground from 21,468 to 24,000, include an executive box.

Playing budget

Officials say financing the project will not affect the playing budget.

Club chairman Roger Munby said the growth in support for the Canaries had given the club a clear mandate for extra capacity.

Mr Munby said: "The outstanding show of support from our fans has reassured the board and our financial backers to continue with these ambitious plans."

It is hoped building work will start next spring and be completed early in 2004.
