Rosie's parents and brother at her funeral
The parents of a schoolgirl who was stabbed to death in Birmingham city centre will donate £40,000 to the hospital which tried to save her life.

Rosie Ross from Aldridge, near Walsall, was attacked as she sunbathed in Centenary Square with a friend in May last year.

Inderjit Kainth, 44, who was mentally ill, admitted stabbing the 16-year-old and has been detained at Ashworth top security hospital near Liverpool.

Rosie was treated at Birmingham's City Hospital but died five hours after the attack.

Grateful for the efforts of doctors and nurses, Rosie's parents, Karen and Sean, wanted to give something back to the hospital.

Over the past year, they have raised £40,000 in memory of their daughter.

On Tuesday, they will present a cheque to staff who fought to save Rosie's life.

Mr Ross said: "Fundraising has helped us cope with something so very tragic.

"We had to do something positive. Something positive has had to come from Rosie's death and doing fundraising has given us that ability to cope."

The hospital will use the money to buy vital life-saving equipment, which will help patients who have received chest injuries.
