Homeless clinic angers residents
Homeless person
Cambridge homeless need a clinic, says the NHS
A residents' group in Cambridge is opposing plans to open a permanent clinic for the homeless in the area.

Residents in Tenison Road, where the clinic is to be located, are concerned that there are too many centres in the local area and that those using them sometimes display "threatening behaviour".

Frank Gawthrop told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire that the group realises that homeless people need medical care, but they do not want a clinic located there permanently.

He said the group has instead suggested a mobile clinic to serve the homeless all over Cambridge.

"We think that if the vagrants and itinerants which come to the city are spread around in various hostels and temporary housing in Cambridge, a much better solution would be to provide a mobile clinic."

Cambridge's Primary Care Trust said the NHS clinic for those living on the street will be vitally important.

Mike Knapton from the Trust said the clinic project is a "positive scheme" which will help homeless people rebuild their lives.
