Body found on motorway
Police car
The Central Motorway Police Group are investigating
Part of the M42 in the West Midlands has been closed after a body was found on the south-bound carriageway at junction four near Solihull.

The discovery was reported by passers-by at around 0130 BST on Friday.

It is believed the man, who has not yet been identified, had been struck by a number of vehicles.

Sergeant Jenny Garbett from the Central Motorway Police Group, based in Birmingham, said the information they have is sketchy.

Traffic disrupted

She told BBC Radio WM: "It is very difficult to interpret what happened at the moment because we have got very little to go on.

"All I can say is there does not appear to be a vehicle involved other than those that have struck the body.

"We will investigate this as thoroughly as we normally do but I would appeal for anyone with information to contact us."

The junction was closed to south-bound traffic until mid-morning while investigations were carried out.

Traffic was diverted up the slip-road at junction four and then down the other side to rejoin the motorway.
