Development could create 10,000 jobs
Basildon
The new plan for Basildon will create jobs
Draft proposals have been drawn up for a major regeneration project in Essex which could create up to 10,000 new jobs.

A development plan has finally been agreed for the 90 acre site at Gardiners Lane South in Basildon, just off the A127 - which will include a hotel, an innovation centre for start-up businesses, and areas for shops.

The initiative will also see about 400 new homes built for both sale and rent.

The plan is being spearheading by English Partnerships - which owns about 75% of the site, which is made up of some local clubs and private housing at present.

Sylvia Short, assistant director of planning for English Partnerships, said: "Basildon has been identified as an important focus for business development and growth as part of a wider strategy to generate long-term prosperity for South Essex.

"The plan for Gardiners Lane South is a key element in delivering that prosperity."
