Driver jailed after police chase
Luton Crown Court
Singh was convicted at Luton Crown Court last week
A driver who sped off with a policeman hanging onto his car has been jailed for four years and nine months, and banned from driving for five years.

Baldav Singh, 24, of Kempston in Bedfordshire, steered the Rover with one hand and punched PC James Frossell with the other as the car reached speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.

PC Frossell was thrown from the car when Singh braked hard, but escaped with only cuts and bruises.

Sentencing Singh at Luton Crown Court, Judge Geoffrey Breen said it was "difficult to think of a more serious case of actual bodily harm".

25-mile chase

The offence happened on 23 March when officers in Bedford decided to stop the Rover 620.

It sped off, and was chased by police for 25 miles through Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.

When Singh stopped on the outskirts of Rushden in Northamptonshire, PC Frossell "launched himself" through the window of the car, which then drove off again.

Singh was convicted last week of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and causing actual bodily harm.

He was cleared of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
