Murder inquiry after mobile stabbing
Liam Attwell: Aided mugging victim
A man who was stabbed in the heart as he went to the aid of a mugging victim has died from his injuries.
Liam Attwell, 25, intervened when a gang tried to steal a boy's mobile phone in Canons Marsh, Bristol, on Thursday. Police say they are now treating the incident as a murder inquiry and are renewing their appeal for information. Mr Attwell, a chef from the Southville area of the city, was with a small group of friends at the time of the incident. He died in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on Sunday evening. Fled on bicycles Avon and Somerset Police set up an incident room and about 40 officers are working on the inquiry. A police spokesman urged anyone with information to contact them or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Officers are still trying to trace a group of five youths - four black and one white - who fled the scene on bicycles over Pero's Bridge to the other side of the city docks. A man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge. |
