Police plea after joyrider's death
The wreck of the Rover Maestro
Daniel Neill died after crashing this Rover Maestro
A teenage joyrider who died in a head-on crash in Manchester had no experience of driving, police say.

Daniel Neill died on Friday after the crash on Wednesday night in Manchester.

Daniel, 16, from Fourth Avenue, Clayton, was driving a stolen Rover Maestro which collided with a Ford Mondeo at about 2200 BST.

He was one of five teenagers travelling in the car, which had been stolen from Droylsden, Greater Manchester.

Daniel died because... he drove a stolen vehicle too fast

Inspector Paul Rowe
Inspector Paul Rowe, from Ashton Traffic Unit, said: "All [Daniel's] family are distraught by what has happened.

"But the last thing they want now is for anyone else to go through what they are going through as a result of his death."

The accident happened near the Bay Horse pub in Berry Brow, Clayton Bridge.

Two other male passengers - aged 17 and 14 - were seriously injured while three people in the Mondeo received minor injuries.

Mr Rowe said: "Daniel died because he had no experience of driving a car and he drove a stolen vehicle too fast.

'Don't copy actions'

"This incident could have been far worse, especially if that car had hit pedestrians rather than another vehicle."

The driver of the Mondeo is recovering from a broken sternum, but feared for his life at the time of the crash, said police.

The others crash victims have received hospital treatment.

"I cannot emphasise enough the dangers of joyriding and I hope that anyone who hears this tragic tale will think twice before copying [Daniel's] actions," said Mr Rowe.
