Store settles with sacked BNP worker
B&Q store
B&Q claimed Mr Scott was affecting staff morale
A shop worker, who was sacked by a DIY store after he stood as a candidate for the British National Party (BNP), has reached an undisclosed settlement with the store.

Kevin Scott was dismissed in June by B&Q, where he worked in the gardening department of their Scotswood Road store in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Mr Scott, 37, of Gateshead, had planned to claim for unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal which was due to take place on Wednesday.

But the company and the claimant agreed a confidential settlement last week.

Customer complaints

Mr Scott said: "I cannot make any comment on the matter, apart from to say it has been settled to the satisfaction of both parties.

"I will now try to find a job, which is my priority, while continuing with my legitimate political activities."

The former shop worker was sacked after he stood for the BNP in Gateshead's Bensham ward in May when he polled 185 votes.

Protesters campaigned outside the store where Mr Scott worked and complaints from both customers and staff were made to the national headquarters.

At the time B&Q denied Mr Scott was sacked for his political beliefs, and said it was because he was affecting staff morale.

A B&Q spokeswoman said: "The case has been settled and any detail is between us and Kevin."
