Knife-thrower seeks girl in a million
Chick Rogers, knife-thrower
Chick Rogers uses knives he has owned for 40 years
A circus knife-thrower is seeking a brave volunteer to stand in front of his board as he throws his one millionth, and last, knife.

Chick Rogers, from Billinghay near Sleaford in Lincolnshire, is planning to retire as a knife thrower this weekend.

The 66-year-old, who has been throwing knives since he was 13, plans to retire after the show in Horncastle on Sunday.

But before he does, he want to throw his one millionth knife and has asked a young woman from the county to volunteer.

14-inch blade

Mr Rogers said: "I am looking for somebody out of the ordinary.

"A young lady who has got flair and nerves of steel for this historic occasion."

Chick Rogers needs a volunteer

She will need to take up different positions including a handstand and have knives thrown at her when Mr Rogers is blindfolded.

He took about 18 months to learn the art of knife throwing using a tailor's dummy.

"It is a flick, a fast flick and I stand back three yards to do it."

He uses a set made in Belfast in 1962, which have a 14-inch blade with a sharp point.

"They are like a pair of shoes - if they fit you use them."

He said it was a great opportunity for the volunteer.

"I am sure she will enjoy it and it is something to stay with her for the rest of her life."
