Baby girl found in garden
Louise Hope
Hospital staff christened the girl Louise Hope
A new-born baby girl, thought to be only hours old, has been found in the garden of a house in Liverpool.

The child was discovered at about 0600 BST on Thursday outside a house in Allesley Road, Dovecot.

Police said the baby, with her umbilical cord attached, was found wrapped in a shirt.

She was found by a worker on his way to catch a bus.

A Merseyside police spokeswoman said the baby was spotted by a young man on his way to work, who took the child home to his mother.

"The little girl is doing OK," she said.

"She still had her umbilical cord attached and was wrapped up in a shirt or blouse - nothing else."

The baby girl was taken to the city's Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where her condition is described as healthy.

Staff there have named her Louise Hope - after the first nurse who treated her and to signify new hope after the anniversary of 11 September.

The spokeswoman said police were worried about the mother of the baby and urged her to contact them.

"Obviously we are desperate to find the baby's mother who may be in desperate need of medical attention," she said.
