Man crushed by falling steel
The dead man worked for NEF Steel Fabrication
A man has died after being crushed by falling steel at a factory in County Durham.
Police say the man, thought to be in his 20s, died at the NEF steel fabrication plant in Darlington. The man is not being named yet by Durham Police, who said he was single. A police spokesman said the man suffered serious injuries and died despite the efforts of paramedics. The spokesman said the Health and Safety Executive was carrying out a full investigation into the incident, which happened shortly before 0800 BST on Tuesday. The police spokesman said the steel narrowly missed a second worker at the premises in Cleveland Trading Estate, Cleveland Road. He said: "At this stage there is nothing to suggest there are any suspicious circumstances."
