Canaries win freedom of city
City freedom
The lavish ceremony took place at St Andrew's Hall
Norwich City Football Club has been given the freedom of the city to mark its centenary year.

There was a lavish ceremony at St Andrew's Hall on Thursday night, for players, officials and fans.

Other recipients of the honour, which dates back to the 14th Century, include Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington.

Supporters along with past and present players came together to celebrate 100 years of the club, whose yellow and green strip earned players the nickname of The Canaries.

Lord Mayor Derek Wood, a supporter for more than 50 years, said it was a great honour for him.

"We are saluting a great institution of the city which has contributed much to our citizens lives over the last 100 years."

He presented a ceremonial scroll to former club chairman Geoffrey Watling, now club president, to mark the honour.
