The funeral of one of two police officers killed in a collision on the A42 in Leicestershire has taken place in Derbyshire.

More than 200 police officers paid their last respects to constable Andrew Munn who was buried at All Saint's Church in Sawley.

The 37-year-old, who was honoured for his bravery two years ago, was killed with his colleague Bryan Moore as they tried to stop a van near Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire on 15 August.

At his funeral on Thursday, 20 officers formed a guard of honour as his coffin was driven in to the churchyard.

Murder charge

Eight officers in full uniform then carried his coffin into church, followed by his family.

The funeral was led by the Reverend Peter Henry.

PC Munn, who served with Leicestershire Police for six years, left a wife, Allison, and two children, Alexandra, nine, and three-year-old Cameron.

The funeral of his colleague will be held in Shepshed on Friday.

PC Moore, 39, had served with the force for 21 years at Coalville, Ashby and Kegworth and had won two awards for bravery.

Man charged

He leaves a widow, Sarah, and three children, Christopher, 13, Jonathan, 11 and Victoria, 10.

Both men were based in Shepshed, Leicestershire.

A 29-year old man from Birmingham has been charged with two counts of murder.

Leayon Dudley, of Acocks Green, will appear before Leicester Crown Court on 25 October.
