Baby's skull fractured in attack
Chelsea Park, Bristol
The attackers struck in Chelsea Park, Easton
A three-month-old baby girl suffered a fractured skull during an unprovoked attack on her mother in a Bristol park.

The woman was with her daughter in Chelsea Park in the Easton area of the city when she was assaulted by a man and a woman.

The child suffered a fractured skull and the mother was cut on her head following the incident on Monday at 1820 BST.

The police described the incident as "a particularly nasty and savage beating".

Still shaken

The baby girl's injuries are not life threatening but she is being kept under observation in the Bristol Children's Hospital.

Her mother was treated for a cut to her head and has been released from hospital.

Detectives said because of her vulnerable state she had not been able to provide a description of her attackers, but they believe it was a mugging attempt that went wrong.

Police say the area would have been quite busy and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
