Councillor quits after porn charges
Preston Crown Court
Bill Chadwick will appear at Preston Crown Court
A councillor in Preston at the centre of child porn allegations has resigned as his party's local leader.

Bill Chadwick is on remand in Preston prison after being arrested at his home at Avenham Road in the city on 9 August.

Computer equipment was seized and he was charged with making indecent pictures of children.

He was further charged with inciting another man to commit the kipnap, rape, torture and murder of a schoolgirl.

Phone call

The 48-year-old appeared before magistrates on 12 August where he denied all the charges.

Mr Chadwick announced his decision to quit as leader of the Liberal Democrats on Preston City Council in a phone call to a colleague.

His solicitor, David Room, says Mr Chadwick is stepping down only temporarily as he believes he will be cleared of all charges.

He will appear at Preston Crown Court on 20 August.
