Train death student named
Police suspect Mr Shone was murdered
Police have named a 23-year-old student they suspect was murdered by being pushed off a moving train.
Edward Shone, of Runcorn, Cheshire, was on the London-bound train near Woking, Surrey, when he fell out through a window. The train was travelling through a tunnel at 60 mph on 7 August. Four students have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are on police bail. An inquest into Mr Shone's death was opened and adjourned on Tuesday. He was travelling on the 2257 BST South West Train from Alton, Hampshire, to Waterloo but fell to his death in the Pirbright area just 30 minutes into the journey. A spokesman for the British Transport Police said it was investigating whether he fell out "of his own accord or was helped". He said that officers were investigating if Mr Shone was trying to "surf" the train - hanging on to the outside of a moving carriage. There was no suggestion that the door was faulty, he added. |
