Hijackers attack truck driver
Lorry
The truck contained 900 bags of catalogue clothes
A lorry driver has been hijacked at knifepoint at a motorway service station.

Two men forced their way into the man's lorry cab at Hopwood Services, off the M42, in Worcestershire, on Monday night.

The driver was forced to drive to Minworth, where he was told to pull into a layby.

The hijackers pushed the man into the boot of a car driven by a third accomplice, before leaving him at junction six of the motorway, near the National Exhibition Centre.

This would have been a very frightening ordeal for a man who was simply earning his living

Detective Sergeant Brian Russell

The driver, who is from Worcester, had parked his Iveco lorry and trailer at the services at about 2345 BST.

He was attacked by the two hijackers as he went to get out of the cab.

When he was let out of the car, he flagged down a passing lorry and raised the alarm.

Detective Sergeant Brian Russell of West Mercia Police, said: "This would have been a very frightening ordeal for a man who was simply earning his living.

"He is obviously quite shaken."

Witness appeal

The lorry, which contained 900 bags of catalogue clothes, was found on Tuesday morning on the A444 in Leicestershire.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

All three of the men were Asian. One was aged around 20 and wore tracksuit bottoms.

The second was in his teens, about 6ft tall and had a moustache.

The third man was in his mid 20s, slim and about 6ft tall.
