Warders' details given to prisoners
Reading Young Offenders' Institution
Prisoners routinely destroy non-sensitive information
Inmates at a Berkshire jail have been given the addresses and telephone numbers of prison officers by mistake.

Documents containing the personal details of staff were given to inmates at Reading Young Offenders' Institution and Remand Centre as rubbish to burn.

Prison officers say they have received threats and one has reported having a brick thrown through his window following the security breach.

A Home Office spokesman said the incident was "regrettable", and that the officers' details should have been shredded or burned.

'Ongoing invesitgation'

After the mistake was realised, prisoners were ordered to stay in their cells during a lock-down search on 25 July - no documents were found.

There are about 220 inmates and 140 staff at the prison.

Governors have been meeting with staff to try to reassure them.

A Home Office spokesman said: "There is an ongoing investigation into this incident."

The governor has so far declined to comment.
