Lilo users drift out to sea
An inshore lifeboat
Inshore lifeboats are a vital part of the RNLI
Coastguards have warned of the dangers of using inflatable boats at the seaside after nine people were rescued.

The Skegness Inshore Lifeboat launched after the daytrippers got into difficulties on Sunday afternoon.

Soaring temperatures combined with an offshore wind and outgoing tide were partially blamed for the incidents.

Pete Newsome, the secretary of the Skegness Inshore Lifeboat, said people should take more care when they visit the coast.

It must be remembered they are toys and not fit for the open sea

He said: "Everything went OK and there were no serious casualties but we have brought in a number of people, especially young children, on these air beds.

"If we had not been there who knows what would have happened?

"We want people to have a good time and not to put themselves in danger but that is what they are doing when people, especially young children, go out on these inflatables.

"It must be remembered they are toys and not fit for the open sea."
