Girl, 12, raped in front of friend
Police are hunting a man who raped a 12-year-old girl in front of her young friend.

The attack happened near Hindley, in Greater Manchester, on Sunday evening - but details have only just been released.

The girl, from Westleigh, Leigh, was playing with her friend close to a stream when they were approached by a man in his late teens or early 20s.

He began speaking to the girls then forced his victim to the ground and assaulted her. Both girls then managed to escape.

This 12-year-old girl has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and has been left extremely traumatised by what happened.

Det Sgt Brian Langrish

The attack happened at about 1800 BST near Hall Lee Brook, close to Smallbrook Lane, Hindley Green.

A witness saw the girls running away, followed by a man who then cycled towards Hindley on a fluorescent yellow mountain bike.

He is described as white, of medium build, with a prominent nose and freckles across his cheeks and nose.

Det Sgt Brian Langrish, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This 12-year-old girl has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and has been left extremely traumatised by what happened.

"Her friend who was forced to watch the attack has also been severely shocked by the incident.

"This man is obviously very dangerous and it is vital that anyone who can help us identify him comes forward and speaks to the police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID at Astley Bridge on 0161-856-5740.
