Dog stuck for days in mineshaft
Tin mine
Tiny fell down a capped shaft of a tin mine in a field
A dog called Tiny has been rescued after three days trapped down a 50-foot mineshaft.

The Jack Russell terrier fell down the shaft at Bissoe near Truro on Thursday.

After a two-day search, her owners heard Tiny whining.

A firefighter was eventually winched down to the dog on Sunday, after the rescue was delayed for a further 14 hours because of fading light.

The dog was found at the bottom safe and well - although hungry and thirsty

Jeff Hick, Camborne Fire Station

Tiny's owner, Jeanette Evans, said she searched the local area before realising Tiny had fallen down the capped shaft to a disused tin mine in a field near her home.

"We were out of our minds with worry," she said.

"Although we knew she was down there, until they checked her out we didn't know if she'd broken her spine."

Jeff Hick, divisional officer at Camborne Fire Station, said special equipment had to be used to rescue the Jack Russell.

"We lowered a firefighter down the shaft and the dog was found at the bottom safe and well - although hungry and thirsty," he said.
