Leanne murderer jailed for life
Leanne Tiernan
Leanne's body was not found for nine months
A parcel delivery worker has been told to expect to spend the rest of his life in jail for the murder of Leeds teenager Leanne Tiernan.

John Taylor, 46, from Cockshott Drive, Bramley, was given two life sentences at Leeds Crown Court after pleading guilty to her murder.

Leanne was abducted near her home in Leeds, West Yorkshire, in November 2000. Her body was found nine months later.

The prosecution said she had been strangled by Taylor for "sexual gratification".

Dog collar

Earlier, Taylor showed little emotion as he first confirmed his name and then answered "guilty" as the clerk put the murder charge to him.

Leanne, who was studying for her GCSEs, went missing after a Christmas shopping trip with her friend Sarah Whitehouse.

Following her disappearance, a police search involving hundreds of officers and volunteers began.

It became the largest missing persons inquiry in the history of the West Yorkshire force.

Leanne's body was found by a man walking a dog.

She had been wrapped up in plastic bags and had a dog collar around her neck. Her hands had been tied using plastic cable ties.

Taylor was arrested in October last year.
