In pictures: Fans' agony and ecstasy
England and Argentina fans gathered in pubs, bars, shopping centres and squares around the UK to cheer on the two rivals in the World Cup revenge match.
Fans watched breathlessly as England scored first with a Beckham penalty - but then came under relentless pressure from Argentina.

England fans prayed for victory after a Swedish win put them under extra pressure

But they were in raptures when Beckham netted the goal, putting England 1-0 ahead to half-time

City workers, watching the match from their office, also celebrated
Argentine fans felt the pressure in the second half, as their team used all its substitutes in the fightback
The pressure was almost too much as Argentina harassed England with repeated close goal attempts
British soldiers watching the match in Cyprus also felt nervous as the second half wore on
Relief and jubilation from England fans met the referee's final whistle, confirming a 1-0 victory
Fans up and down the country cheered as England's hopes of reaching the second round stayed alive
