Nudists hold Jubilee street parties
Naturist in a field
British Naturism has 25,000 members
Naturists are planning to bare all in their very own street party to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

The Jubilee coincides with the annual rally of British Naturism which will be held this year at a private club near Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Mike Berridge of British Naturism said the tea party would be held behind closed doors away from prying eyes.

But he thinks the Royal family would certainly approve.

They aren't fazed by naturism - the Royal family don't seem to get fazed by anything

Mike Burridge, British Naturism

Mr Berridge told BBC News Online the theme of the Jubilee party on Sunday will be based on the theme of yesteryear - with clothing optional.

He said other naturism clubs across the country were also planning their own Golden Jubilee knees-up.

"There are quite a few things going on this weekend with a lot of the clubs planning something to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee," he said.

"We have sent a message of congratulations to the Queen, something we also did for the Silver Jubilee.

"Although we have never had royal patronage, we do have a naturist beach in Norfolk where members of the Royal family have been spotted walking their dogs.

Heated marquee

"Some of our members have told me that they have quite often stopped to chat to the naturists.

"They aren't fazed by naturism - the Royal family don't seem to get fazed by anything."

Mr Berridge added that the party would be held within the confines of a private naturist club in Throckley, Northumberland.

"We are planning to hold it out in the open but if the weather is bad then we have a heated marquee," added Mr Berridge.

"Unfortunately I don't think the local populous would welcome us out onto the streets."

British Naturism commissioned a recent poll which suggested about a million Britons would class themselves as nudists.

The group currently has a membership of 25,000.
