Third dog seized after attack
Leah Preston
Leah needed surgery after the attack
Police have seized a dog which might be related to two animals which were put down after they mauled a five-year-old girl.

Leah Preston almost died after she was attacked as she played in the front garden of her Wolverhampton home on 16 May.

West Midlands Police took the animal, similar to the two bull mastiff cross-breeds after visiting an address near her home on the Low Hill estate on Wednesday.

The dog is in kennels while officers determine whether it is related to the two that left the youngster with horrific injuries, and whether it can be legally kept.

Dogs destroyed

A force spokeswoman said: "Following inquiries, officers last night executed a warrant at a property in the vicinity of the original incident.

"A dog was seized, believed to be a similar type to that involved in the attack on Leah Preston.

"It may be related to the two dogs involved in the attack."

Leah was playing in the front garden of her home in Hawksford Crescent, when the two dogs escaped from a cage next door and attacked her.

They were subsequently destroyed, having also turned on owner Jean Harvey as she tried to shield the youngster, and her two children.

Leah is in the Diana, Princess of Wales Children's Hospital in Birmingham after having a series of skin grafts for her wounds.
