Motorist sought in Amanda inquiry
Amanda was wearing her uniform when she disappeared
Detectives investigating the disappearance of schoolgirl Amanda Dowler say they want to speak to the driver of a blue Saab car.
Surrey Police said on Thursday a girl fitting the description of the missing 13-year-old was seen talking to the driver near where she disappeared. Two motorists have also reported seeing a similar girl at two other locations in Rydens Road, Walton-on-Thames, near the schoolgirl's Surrey home. Police have displayed clothing and possessions similar to those of Amanda's in the hope it will jog people's memories.
They include a school uniform, a Nokia 3210 mobile phone, and a purse with love hearts on it. The last definite sighting was when the teenager, known as Milly, left a railway station in Walton-on-Thames to walk home two weeks ago. All three of the latest sightings were shortly after 1600 GMT on the day she disappeared.
The two motorists said the girl was wearing a school uniform and appeared to be crying. Detective Superintendent Alan Sharp asked anybody who thinks they may be the young girl or knows who she is to come forward. He said: "Obviously our concern mounts as time goes on. River search "We still expect to find Amanda and to find her alive and well. "I again want to appeal to her if she is out there to contact Surrey Police or her parents. She is not in any trouble."
Despite extensive searches by Surrey Police and appeals by Milly's family and friends, no trace of the teenager has been found. Detectives say there was no evidence of a struggle and it is possible she may have left with someone she knew. Meanwhile, Surrey Police say there is nothing to suggest a connection between a reported sighting of a body and their investigation. Detectives from Scotland Yard are searching the Hogsmill river in the Motspur Park area of south-west London after two 12-year-olds reported seeing a body. During the search an old blazer was found on the embankment and officers from Surrey Police were called in to look at it. But a police spokesman at the scene said: "They have been here and are satisfied that it has nothing to do with the Amanda Dowler investigation." |
