Two inmates still on run
![]() The men are serving 10-year sentences
Two inmates are still on the run from a Northamptonshire prison after apparently hiding in the back of a delivery lorry.
Warwickshire and West Midlands police forces have now joined in the hunt for the pair, who were serving 10-year sentences at the privately-run Rye Hill prison near Rugby. They have been named as 22-year-old Jason Sufi, convicted of a number of violent offences, and 27-year-old Adrian Mason, convicted of conspiracy to rob. Detectives have warned people not to approach the pair. Machete attack A search of the area using dogs and a police helicopter was carried out on Monday. Prison officers noticed the two men were missing after goods were collected from the prison workshop at about 0900 GMT on Monday. Sufi is a category C prisoner convicted of attacking a policewoman with a knife and a jeweller with a machete. He is described as dark-skinned, with black hair and brown eyes and of slight build. Adrian Mason is a category B prisoner who was sentenced after police recorded his conversations in a cell. Private prison He is white, with brown hair and a fair complexion, a goatee beard and tattoos on his arms and the back of his head. It is the first time that anyone has escaped from the private prison, on the Northamptonshire-Warwickshire border, since it opened 14 months ago. Chief Superintendent John Millar said: "Prison security is a matter for the prison. "We are investigating the escape as it is a criminal offence and will of course share all our findings with the prison." A spokeswoman for Group 4, which runs Rye Hill prison, said that a full investigation was under way in cooperation with the police. |
